The Tourism Department of Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports is encouraging operators of tourism-related businesses to promptly apply for standard quality assessments so as to receive certifications on April 3 and be included in a government-endorsed list for worldwide customers.
Director-General Wanasiri Morakul (pictured left) said the businesses must meet four criteria to win Thailand Tourism Standard certification, namely legitimacy, hygiene, fair prices, and safety.
There are five tourism-related business categories eligible for quality evaluation. They are goods and services operations (such as souvenir and jewellery businesses, massage services, spas and amusement parks); travel agencies; restaurants; tour coaches; and accommodations.
“The standard quality criteria in each business category are different,” Wanasiri said.
Deputy Prime Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn will award certifications to businesses that have already passed the standard quality assessment next Monday.
