Thailand promotes gastronomic tourism to Pinoys

The Royal Thai Embassy, Manila and Benjarong, Dusit Thani Manila’s celebrated Thai restaurant, recently held the second annual “Thai Culinary Delights” celebrating Thai cuisine and culture.

“Right now, Thailand is promoting ‘gastronomic tourism’ as a key part of our key marketing campaign,” Kajorndet Apichartrakul, director of Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Singapore and Philippine office said in his opening remarks.

“Last year, Bangkok was named as the city with the best street food by CNN International for the second year running.”

The highlight of the event was a cooking demo from Panjama Praphapantasak and Yanat Maartloe who flew in from Suan Dusit University, one of the finest culinary schools in Bangkok managed by the Dusit group.

Chef Watcharaphon Youngbanthom, whom CNN lauded when they chose Benjarong as one the hottest new restaurants in the world this year, also took to the cooking demo stage to show off her specialties.
