The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will organise a golf event targeted at the expatriate community in the country as part of the efforts to restore confidence in domestic tourism.

The Amazing Thailand Expat Golf Tournament Series 2021 event will be held on June 4 at Siam Country Club in Chon Buri, Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn told a recent press conference.

The event is being organised to promote domestic travel among the expatriates in Thailand under the “Stay Play Safe” campaign, he said.

Phiphat said the event was aimed to re-energise the tourism sector that has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thailand’s tourism industry in particular and economy in general has been severely affected by the coronavirus outbreak, he said.

“The government has started to look for ways to revive the industry from within, targeting the domestic market. Through collaboration with the Tourism and Sports Ministry, the Public Health Ministry and other sectors, the ‘Stay Play Safe’ campaign has been introduced not only to publicise awareness of the ‘Amazing Thailand Safety & Health Administration’ [SHA] hygienic standard certification, but also to boost confidence among tourists which will help revive the tourism sector,” he said.

Tanes Petsuwan, TAT deputy governor for marketing communications, hailed the government, medical professionals and other parties concerned in their efforts to contain the coronavirus.

The TAT itself has continued promoting tourism among foreigners and domestic tourists, he said.

A number of events and activities have been held to attract tourists, Tanes said.

The Tourism and Sports Ministry recently held the Minister Cup 2021 at Alpine Golf Club in Pathum Thani.
