The government will quarantine or turn away tourists from Italy, Germany, France, Spain, and Iran, the countries that have been hit the worst by COVID-19, a tourism organisation said Sunday.

The Union of Myanmar Travel Association confirmed that the government is preparing to quarantine or turn away tourists from the five countries, adding that more countries may be added to the list.

About 20 tourists from Spain, France, Germany and other European countries landed at Yangon International Airport on Sunday but refused to be quarantined and chose not to stay in the country, according to the company that arranged the tour.

Some tour agencies may have problems arranging trips due to the rapidly changing situation.

U Aung Tun Lin, chair of the association, said the government will quarantine or turn away travellers from 15 countries that have been most affected by the virus.
