Startup Weekend Yangon Travel Tech Edition will be organized in second week of December 2017, said Dr. Lu Mon of Mira Travels, who is one of the organizers for the event.

Startup Weekend events are entrepreneurship programs of U.S based Techstars which is one of the top global accelerators. The event is a 54-hour program from Friday to Sunday that brings together designers, developers, entrepreneurs and experts to create innovative business ideas.

In Myanmar, Startup Weekend events are organized by Humble Lab Partners in collaboration with industry experts. According to Thu Rein Tun of Humble Lab Partners, since 2009, over 4,150 Startup Weekends events are organized in more than 140 countries.

“Mira Travels is proud to become an organizer for this travel tech edition of Startup Weekend event. This is the first of its kind event in Myanmar tourism industry. Global tourism trends are changing towards technology and Myanmar tourism is no exception.” said Dr. Su Myat Sandi Oo of Mira Travels, who will serve a mentor for the participating teams in the event.

Myanmar Tourism Federation will support the event said Dr. Lu Mon.

“We are inviting tourism entrepreneurs to participate in the event. We need home-grown service providers who can think of a wide range of possible solutions along tourism value chain. After the event, it is a good chance for innovators to receive funding from investors. On the other hand, investors can take a look at promising ideas.”, continued Dr. Lu Mon.

Dr. Lu Mon said Mira Travels is looking at the possibility of setting an entity to continue support the winning teams.
