Myanmar Gears Up for ASEAN Tourism Forum 2020

Tourism officials and exhibitors are expected to gather in Brunei for the 39th ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2020 from January 12 to 16.   This year themed “ASEAN: Together Towards A Next Generation of Travel”,  aims to reinforce ASEAN’s mission and objectives that were set out in 1967.  The ASEAN Tourism Forum, which rotates its hosting duties every year, was established in 1981 to promote Southeast Asia as a single tourist destination.

The annual ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) will provide an excellent platform for Myanmar among international delegates and media to showcase its diverse range of new and exciting tourism products, services and events of the country.  H.E. U Ohn Maung, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism, and his delegation will attend the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2020 and its related meetings.

Myanmar government has introduced new regulations to facilitate easier access for tourists to visit the country as a next step to open up to the world.  1st January 2020, government-granted visas-on-arrival (VOA) for an additional 5 more countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg and New Zealand) for three year trial period.

“We do hope that all these new regulations to ease access to Myanmar, will lead to more travellers from around the world to discover the unique Myanmar culture, nature and most of all the diversity and hospitality of the people,” said Ms May Myat Mon Win, Myanmar Tourism Marketing Chairperson.

As usual, the ATF will hold the Tourism Ministers Meeting, the National Tourism Authority’s Leadership Meeting, the TRAVEX Travel Fair and other events. On 16th January, there will be Myanmar Media Briefing at ATF and will give a presentation to the media on update information of tourism sector in the country.  Myanmar Tourism Marketing has invited travel journalists and Instagrammers to visit the country and organize media trips for publications that are interested to show and share their experiences.
