China was Myanmar’s second most important tourism source market last year. About 500,000 Chinese tourists visited in 2016; significantly lower than the more than 800,000 who visited in 2015.
Chinese tourists mainly visited Myanmar from Muse, Laukai, Chin Shwe Haw, Lweji, Kanpiketi and Mongla. Most of them used the Muse border gate.
Ohn Maung, Myanmar’s Minister for Hotels and Tourism said: “All people in the tourism sector need to keep the momentum up on the development of the tourism industry and share the benefits from the industry with all citizens.
“Myanmar is planning to cooperate with Yunnan Province Tourism Development Committee to establish Lancang-Mekong River Tourism Cities, tourism information center and South Asia and East Asia internet-based tourism industry.”
