Mekong Tourism condemns Brussels attacks

At today’s GMS Statistics Harmonisation Workshop, hosted by the Cambodia Ministry of Tourism in Siem Reap the home of UNESCO Heritage site Angkor Wat, the delegations of the member countries of the Greater Mekong Subregion condemned the terrorist attacks from Tuesday morning in the Belgian capital of Brussels, which left over 30 people dead and over 100 wounded.

Jens Thraenhart, Executive Director of the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office mentioned in his opening remarks that the travel and tourism community in the Greater Mekong Subregion is deeply shocked by the happenings in the EU capital, and on behalf of MTCO expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims and to the Belgian people.

The workshop participants agreed that tourism has to be a force for good to spread cultural understanding and economic development, especially in these challenging times affecting the peace of Belgium and the world as a whole.
