Travel Experience

At Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center, Wildlife Alliance cares for and rehabilitates animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Take an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Center and meet animals rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. Wildlife Alliance runs a 'behind-the-scenes' fundraising tour at the center, with 100% of profits going to our rescue, rehabilitation and release projects for wildlife affected by the illegal animal trafficking trade in Cambodia. Highlights include feeding two friendly female elephants and watching the keepers use our positive-reinforcement, training method to change the prosthetic foot of our youngest elephant, Chhouk, who lost his foot to a snare, entry into the tiger and leopard dens for safe but up-close viewing (all through protective barriers), and entry to our nursery to interact and feed a troupe of energetic baby monkeys! There is also an experience to be an elephant keeper for the day. Elephant Keeper for a Day is an exciting opportunity for you to get your hands dirty and learn more about our four gentle pachyderms at Phnom Tamao. Learn about Chhouk our youngest elephant and how he came to lose his foot requiring a prosthetic, meet two of our rescued wild elephants and how the human/animal conflict in Cambodia lead them to our center and finish the day with a walk in the forests with Lucky. Minimum donation for both tours is $150 US per adult, with discounts for children and includes transportation to and from the park, lunch and beverages, ticket entry, English-speaking guides, and access into the private areas we work at the center to learn and interact with some of our animals! Please note the elephant keeper for a day tour is not suitable for children.

Responsibility

Wildlife Alliance is the leader in direct protection to forests and wildlife in the Southeast Asian tropical belt. Our mission is to combat deforestation, extinction, climate change, and poverty by partnering with local communities and governments.

Business Case

The organisation now known as Wildlife Alliance has worked with local governments, communities and other like-minded non-governmental organisations to implement cutting edge programs in Southeast Asia. Currently we focus on a suite of programs in Cambodia’s Southern Cardamom Mountain Range to protect forests and wildlife, stop illegal trade in threatened species, help people find income-generating alternatives to poaching and illegal logging, and teach future generations to treasure their natural resources. We also have partnered with the Cambodian government to implement an urban law enforcement team, known as the Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team that cracks down 24/7 on wildlife trade throughout the country. The team investigates trade networks, apprehends wildlife traffickers, and rescues and releases animals that have fallen victim to the trade.
