Myanmar Accessible Tourism Center have served its disabled customers to enjoy their tailor-made travel experiences while helping them to create a positive impacts on lives of local communities they visited. MATC values its commitment to achieve their business goals in a sustainable approach. The company believes that the responsible practice of sustainable tourism will create the positive effects on local communities while it will reduce negative social and environmental impacts of tourism.

Responsibility

Myanmar Accessible Tourism Center (MATC) was launched at UNWTO International Year for Accessible Tourism, Bangkok, 2016. The vision of MATC is to make Myanmar a better place to visit and immerse for disabled travelers. Born out of “Accessible Myanmar”, a Year 2015 PPIC award winning project of Mira Travels (parent organization of MATC), supported by Business Innovation Facility of UK Government. MATC is the pioneer barrier-free tourism operator in Myanmar. MATC is supported by an International Advisory Group (IAG), comprised of local and international tourism experts. The IAG exists to expand awareness and knowledge of barrier free or accessible tourism opportunities for both international and domestic tourists throughout Myanmar. By providing disability inclusive training to local tourist guides, MATC is adding value to tourism value chain. MATC is also guided by its parent organization’s Mira Travels’ Responsible Tourism Policy which reflects its integration of sustainability concepts to the company’s operation. Mira Travels is awarded with Travelife Partner, a renown sustainability standard in tourism. The award is a recognition for the long-term efforts and frontrunner position of Mira Travels regarding sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility. The company complies with more than 100 criteria, related to an operators’ office management, product range, international business partners and customer information. The Travelife standard is covering the ISO 26000 Corporate Social Responsibility themes, including environment, biodiversity, human rights and labour relations; and is formally recognized as in full compliance with the UN supported Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria. Travelife, which has been established with the support of the European Commission, is the leading international sustainability certification for the travel sector. More than 35 national travel associations are promoting the scheme to their members. Mira Travels commits a strong responsibility towards children and is a proud supporter of Child Safe Tourism campaign. The campaign aims to equip travellers with knowledge and information on simple things one can do to become a child safe traveller.
