Mandalay sees more Chinese tourists

During four months this year, the number of tourist arrivals in Mandalay region reached over 240,000. The Chinese tourist arrivals have increased by over 70 per cent and there are more direct flight schedules between Myanmar and China.

Last year, the inflow of Chinese tourists into Mandalay increased significantly thanks to the relaxation of some rules and regulations in the local tourism sector.  During four months this year, the number of tourist arrivals hit 241,499, according to the Department of Hotels and Tourism.

“In the past, the number of Thai tourist arrivals was high. The number of direct flight schedules from Mandalay to China has increased from four to 16. The department is trying to solve difficulties as quickly as possible and will coordinate with those in the tourism sector,” said San Yu, assistant director of Department of Hotels and Tourism (Upper Myanmar).
