Commemorating ancestors and honouring their deed done during life on earth takes a very significant place in China’s annual Ching Ming Festival. Also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, residents pay visits to burial sites and graves of those lost, as they pay respect to the deceased and decorating memorial stones and columbaria with flowers and gifts.
Traditionally, during these days, it is common to find ‘qingtuan’ (green dumplings made of rice and barley grass) on the menu, particularly in mainland China. In addition, it is the time for Chinese to head out with the family for family outings, celebrating the arrival of spring.
