On the full moon night of the lunar calendar, residents of the southwestern village of Champasak are holding their traditional Wat Phou Festival (“Bun Wat Phu Champasak”). These included in these – covering many days – festivities are elephant races, water buffalo and cockfighting, blended with a variety of other traditional performances. The region will be filled with festivities and see this UNESCO World Heritage site taking centre stage.
Aside from the Champasak province seeing office doors closed on this day, other parts of charming Laos remain open.
