The full moon day of Kason is an important day for Buddhist faithful in Myanmar. Falling this year on 29 April, it marks the day that the third Buddha, Dipinkara, predicted that the hermit Thumaydhar would become the fourth Buddha, Gautama, in his next life.
On this day, Myanmar Buddhists offer food to monks, repeat the precepts recited by important religious leaders, adhere more closely to the Buddhist precepts, listen to sermons, and practice meditation. Some also gain merit by freeing fish and birds from captivity.
