Cambodia’s leading mobile operator Smart Axiata has launched the Smart WeChat Go SIM, a new prepaid product targeting Chinese visitors, according to its press release on Saturday.

The product is a result of Smart’s partnership with China’s messaging and mobile payment giant WeChat, the release said, adding that with this partnership, Smart Axiata addresses the growing number of Chinese travellers visiting Cambodia, enabling them to stay connected with their friends and families and enjoy unlimited entertainment in their own language via the Lingcod TV application.

It is expected that by 2020, 3 million tourists from China will come to see Cambodia’s ancient history and natural beauty annually.

The release said that with Smart’s advanced network nationwide coverage, the Smart WeChat Go SIM is designed to offer convenience and to enhance the experience of the Chinese tourists who choose to visit Cambodia each year.

“This exciting new prepaid product is a great way for the growing number of Chinese visitors to Cambodia to use the technology they like, stay always connected with their travel mates, friends and family at home as well as to entertain themselves while on the move worry-free,” Smart Axiata’s Chief Marketing Officer Stjepan Udovicic said.

“We are very excited to work with WeChat on designing new products that provide Chinese visitors with Chinese language streaming entertainment and excellent network experience for their most pleasant stay in Cambodia,” he added.

According to the release, Smart WeChat Go SIM is available in three variances. Visitors can enjoy non-stop Internet of up to 8 GB, calls to China, on-net calls and SMS in Cambodia as well as unlimited access to WeChat and the Lingcod TV app without further top-ups.

The SIM cards will be available for purchase in designated distribution points in China as well as in Cambodia at Siem Reap and Phnom Penh International Airports, the release said.
