Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports plans to launch “Amazing Thai Host” project that will recruit seniors to be volunteers for the tourism industry, reports TTR Weekly.

Tourism and Sports Minister, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, said Thailand is now entering an aging society era and needs to find ways to use the skills seniors have acquired after they reach 65.

“The Amazing Thai Host project will give an opportunity for local seniors who have ability and need to earn income  to join the programme … they will be trained to assist tourists at tourist destinations, monitor safety and coordinate with authorities.”

The programme targets mainly former government officials in retirement, including military, in order for them to supplement their pensions.
