Eleven reports that Myanmar needs to sign a request by Thai government to allow Myanmar visitors to visit Prachuap Khiri Khan province in order to open Singkhon gate as a permanent border gate, said an official from Thailand.
The Singkhon gate now stands as a temporary border gate, and Myanmar is asking Thai authorities to upgrade it to a permanent border gate to facilitate border trade between Myanmar and Thailand.
However, the Thai official said the request to open the gate is pending the approval by Myanmar authorities of changes to permitted travel distance for Myanmar visitors.
“The Tanintharyi region government submitted an assessment of the area to the Union Government, and if the Union Government signs the assessment, the Singkhon gate will be upgraded as a permanent border gate. We are trying to arrange security for Myanmar travellers in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. We asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to allow visitors from Myanmar to visit all eight townships of the province. We hope the minister gives visitors permission. We expect to hear good news on New Years eve,” said vice governor Somparn Patchimphat of the province.
