The Hanoi People’s Committee set up on August 1st a proper Ha Noi Department of Tourism, which takes over tourism promotion and marketing activities from Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The new department will be responsible for managing tourism enterprises in the city. It will also set up plans and programmes on tourism promotion, events, fairs and exhibitions. It will be in charge of protecting Hanoi’s tourism resources and destinations and will work at improving Hanoi weakness, such as polluted environment, cheating taxis and shops overcharging visitors.
The establishment of a separate department is expected to boost tourism and help fully utilise the city’s strengths, according to the municipal People’s Committee.
In the first six months of the year, more than 10 million foreign and local tourists visited Hanoi, an increase of four per cent over the same period last year. From that number, over 1.6 million of visitors were foreigners, a year-on-year increase of 8.8 per cent.
Hanoi follows Ho Chi Minh City which launched in 2014 its own
Department of Tourism, which was also separated from the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
